Obituary
Mr. Marvin Edward Burgus, 80, of Sperry, died at 5:10 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at his home.
Born April 6, 1936, at Burlington Hospital, he was the son of Cecil William and Lillian Rachel (Reeb) Burgus. On September 1, 1956, he married Joanne Ruth Dankwardt in St. John’s Catholic Church in Burlington. Joanne preceded Marvin in death on May 31, 2011.
Marvin was a 1954 graduate of Mediapolis High School and was very involved with their class reunions. He was a fifth generation farmer and very proud to receive the Century Award and the Heritage Award at the Iowa State Fair for his farm. Marvin worked at various places and retired from J. I. Case Company in 1992. He was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington.
Marvin was a member of U.A.W. Local #807, he enjoyed woodworking, going to family events, going out to eat, ice cream cones, mushroom hunting, talking on his cell phone, and his dog Sparky. His two restored antique tractors were featured on Max’s Tractor Show on RFD-TV.
Marvin started cooking after his wife Joanne passed away. He enjoyed making and sharing Tea Rings with his family and friends. He’d help do anything for anyone and truly was the example of a perfect dad and grandpa. He will leave an empty space in many hearts.
