Mr. L. Thomas "Tom" Burgin, 87, of Burlington died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born February 3, 1926 in Burlington, he was the son of Edgar and Elsa Obermann Burgin. On June 24, 1951 he married Dorothy E. Bromann in Burlington.
Mr. Burgin was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School, received his associates degree from Burlington Junior College and his bachelor's degree in science and commerce from the University of Iowa.
Mr. Burgin worked as an accounting supervisor for 40 years retiring in 1990. Starting at Sylvania for 13 years, was an account supervisor for FirstMiss for 16 years and retired after 11 years at Exide as plant controller.
Mr. Burgin was a lifelong member of Community of Christ where he served as Elder, Christian Education leader and Sunday school teacher and former member of Bel Canto Chorale. He enjoyed gardening, woodcarving, camping and traveling during his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy E. Burgin of Burlington; one son, David Burgin of Burlington; one daughter, Linda (Scott) Webb of Des Moines; and one granddaughter, Christina Burgin of Burlington.
His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
A memorial has been established for Community of Christ.
