Obituary
Eldora M. "Dot" Gabeline, 96, of Burlington Medical Center Klein Unit, died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 1998, at the Klein Unit. Born March 21, 1902, in Henry County near Hillsboro, she was the daughter of William Alexander and Rose Belle Reid Thornton. She married Edward H. "Swede" Helterbran on September 3, 1919. They were later divorced. She married Clell McKinley Buchanan on June 30, 1928, in St. Joseph, MO. He died August 15, 1954. She then married Clarence C. Gabeline on November 21, 1957, in Mount Pleasant. He died December 31, 1970. Mrs. Gabeline attended Morning Star School and Fort Madison Business College. She was a homemaker. She worked at the Ordnance Plant in Middletown during World War II, and also worked for Ross Manufacturing and the Dixie Dress Shop. She was an Avon representative for more than 25 years, receiving the Presidents Club Citation many times. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, and a charter member of the Rhoda Circle, a 50-year member of Hillsboro Chapter 575, Order of Eastern Star, Ida Mansfield Circle of King's Daughters, Eagles Auxiliary, Golden Oldies, Women of the Moose, VFW Post 10102 Ladies Auxiliary, 31 Card Club, American Association of Retired Persons, National Senior Citizens and Steamboat Senior Citizens Center. She played bridge in the same foursome for 50 years, and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Pemberton of Burlington; two daughters-in-law, Wanda Buchanan of Burlington and Renee Buchanan of Redding, Calif.; five step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her paarents, an infant son, three step- sons, five brothers, and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Gabeline will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Prugh's Chapel, with the Revs. Forrest and Sue Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Faith Presbyterian Church and BMC Klein Unit Activity Department.
