Obituary
Jerry Lee Buckles, 74, of Burlington, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 5, 1935, in Knoxville, he was the son of Joseph L. and Verdene Opal Stewart Buckles. On February 9, 1964, he married Shirley West in Burlington. Mr. Buckles worked 30 years as a mechanic and in production for Champion Spark Plug. He and his brother raised hunting dogs most of their lives. He served in the Air Force as a jet mechanic and in the National Guard in Guam. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of U.A.W. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, antiques, and collected coins, glass, and Czechoslovakian memorabilia. Survivors include his wife; and one son, Joe Buckles of Burlington. He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Visitation with family present will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Buckles will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. The body will be cremated following the funeral. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington
