Mr. Alan "Neil" Bruner, 74, of Burlington died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2014, at his home.
Born October 31, 1939 in Galesburg, Illinois, he was the son of Harrison L. and Veryle (Young) Bruner. On May 11, 1968 he married Heidi Stichel in Rosetta, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2009.
Mr. Bruner was a graduate of Little York (Illinois) High School and attended three years of college. He was an iron worker for Local 577 Iron Workers Union for 34 years, retiring in October, 2002. He was of the protestant faith and enjoyed fishing, gardening, Cardinals, Bears, Hawkeyes and NASCAR. He was a good man, kind, quick witted and always ready with a joke.
Survivors include three daughters, Darsi Bruner and Dawn Leinniger both of Pleasanton, California and Melanie Beverlin of Burlington; two sons, Tony Bruner of Chandler, Arizona and Pete Hodgerson of Tucson, Arizona; grandson; David Wilker; granddaughters, Cassie (Scott) Robinson and Nicole Wolfe; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren, Brynn Robinson, Joe Wolfe, Brandon Wolfe, Rally Wolfe, Tanner Wilker and Ashlynn Wilker and five brothers, Bill Bruner of New Boston, Illinois, Mike Bruner of Arlington, Virginia, Pat Bruner of Joy, Illinois, Dan Bruner of Andelusia, Illinois and Chuck Bruner of Arlington, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son-in-law, Mark Beverlin.
The funeral service for Mr. Bruner will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
According to Mr. Bruner's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
