Obituary
W. Scott Fegan died at his father's residence, in this city yesterday, at 6 a.m., after an illness of about two weeks. The deceased was born in Union township, this county, on the 21st day of September, 1854, and had always been a resident of this county. He received a liberal education at the Baptist college of this city and the state university of Iowa City, where, in 1775, the degree of LL.B. was conferred upon him. Soon after being admitted to the bar he commenced the practice of law. By close application to professional duties he met with success and was considered by members of the bar as a reliable lawyer. Mr. Fegan has always acted with the republican party and by his death the prohibition element has been deprived of one of its leaders. A meeting of the Des Moines county bar has been called, to be held at nine o'clock this morning at the office of the county clerk. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at ten o'clock from the residence of the parents of the deceased on Sunnyside. Mr. Fegan was stricken down in the prime of life by typhoid fever. His physical endowments were of a superior character, and the news of his death will be unexpected and received with many expressions of regret by his acquaintances. The deceased requested that Rev. Haddock officiate at his funeral. The following gentlemen will act as pall bearers: C.J. Dodge, J.G. Long, D.M.Hammack, J. H. Bremmerman, W.W. Dodge and C.B. Jack.
