Betty Jean Persinger Brown, 78, of Burlington, died at 11:55 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington. Born November 20, 1930, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Glenn Henry and Mabel Eunice Jarvis Persinger. On September 7, 1950, she married William "Brownie" Dawson Brown, Jr. in Burlington. He died May 4, 1993. Mrs. Brown was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone/Qwest, retiring after 33 years. She was raised in the Green Bay Bottoms, and graduated from Fort Madison High School. She attended the Christian Church in Wever and was a member of the Soroptimist Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Stain Glass Club and the Art Guild of Burlington. Survivors include 14 nieces and nephews; one uncle; and numerous cousins. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Brown will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Alzheimer's Association.
