Obituary
Mr. Victor L. "Brownie" Brown, 89, of Burlington died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Burlington Care Center.
Born July 5, 1926 in Agency, he was the son of Claude Webster and Margery Herene (Liggett) Brown. On June 9, 1951 he married Beverly Jean "Frankie" Franklin in Iowa City. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2004.
Mr. Brown was a Burlington High School graduate. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a clerk at I.A.A.P. for 42 years, retiring July 14, 1991.
Mr. Brown was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of Eagles Aerie #150, American Legion Post 52, Moose Lodge #579, and V.F.W. He enjoyed camping, fishing, mowing the grass and golfing with his wife and family. He was a diehard Cubs and Bears fan, was active with his class reunions and with his grandchildren's sports where he was known as "Mudd Dawg Grandpa". He also made Christmas baskets, baking the cookies and making the candies himself.
Survivors include one son, James Alan Brown of Fort Madison; two daughters, Teresa Anne Wagner of Ironwood, Michigan and Lora Lee Mattox of Billings, Montana; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Margery C. Byrum of Ottumwa and one brother, Dennis Brown also of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Charles Victor Brown; and brother, Maurice Brown.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. Brown will be 11:15 a.m. Monday, June 20th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday and then go in procession to the cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
