Miss Bertha Brautigam, 72, Burlington school teacher for a half century, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday in Burlington hospital. She had been ill since last fall. Miss Brautigam, who lived at 109 1/2 S. Marshall street, was born in Burlington Nov. 4, 1870, daughter of Charles and Marie Brautigam, pioneer residents. She taught in Corse, formerly West Hill, school for 50 years prior to retirement in 1941. She was a member of the First Congregational church, and active in affairs of the church. Surviving are three nephews, Dr. Max O. Lorenz, Washington, D.C.;Lt. Com. Theo M. Brautigam, Chicago, and Herbert E. Stein of Burlington, Marion R. Stein, Mrs. Elsa Weiling and Mrs. E.E. MacBride, all of Chicago, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services wil be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home. Rev. Bruce Masselink will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
