Marvin L. Brown, 81, of Burlington, formerly of Oquawka, died 4:40 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born December 8, 1934 in Keokuk, he was the son of Jay Sr. and Ermal Cora (Maple) Brown. He married Barbara Bliss on May 5, 1956 in Burlington. She died July 24, 2010.
Mr. Brown was a product engineer for J.I. Case for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He served in the Navy from April 1956- April 1959. He was a member of the Moose and a former member of the Des Moines Saddle Club. He enjoyed dancing and playing the trumpet and cornet. He loved horses his entire life. He trained and broke Tennessee Walking Horses and took them to several parades.
Survivors include his love and companion; Marian Chamberlain of Burlington; nieces, Kathy (Steve) Weiler of Burlington and Marcelle Gieselman (Mark) Royer of Indianapolis, IN; nephew, Marcus Gieselman of Burlington and his children by choice; James Rollins and Roxanne Rich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, one brother, Jay Brown Jr. and one sister, Helen Gieselman.
The graveside inurnment for Mr. Brown will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2nd at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
