Merle P. Scholes, World war veteran, died at his home, 501 Summer street, West Burlington, at 10:45 this morning after an illness of two years. He was born Jan. 18, 1887, in West Burlington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Scholes. During the World war Mr. Scholes was a member of Battery A. 334th field artillery, and served in France for eight months. Mr Scholes was a rural route letter carrier and a member of the Eagles lodge. Surviving are his mother. His father and a sister preceded him in death. The body is at Prugh's chapel where it will remain until services have been arranged.
