Alphera Brown, 44, of Burlington, died at 1:59 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009, at her home. Born July 9, 1965, in Osceola, Ark., she was the daughter of Albert Brown and Viola Watson. Ms. Brown worked as a registered nurse at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison. She was affiliated with the Baptist Church. She enjoyed music, dancing, singing, and traveling the area in her convertible. Survivors include her mother of Burlington; two sons, Vandell Gay and Anakin Kelly, both of Burlington; one daughter, Vinikia Gay of Burlington; 11 sisters, Sandra Anderson, Shameeka Peake, and Sheena Taylor, all of Burlngton, Alma Jean Black, Angelina Wilbert, Dorothy Brown, all of Osceola, and Yolanda Henderson, Tracy Comerloun, Lesa Brown, Tasha Taylor, and Kiesha Toldert, all of Michigan; eight brothers, Jackie Stewart, Anthony Harris, Rapheal Taylor, all of Burlington, Albert Brown, Jr. of Osceola, Clyde Stewart of Luxora, Ark., and Andrew Wilman of Little Rock, Ark., Gerald Green of Austin, Texas, and Andrea Green of Michigan; special friend, Carlos Scruggs of Burlington; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, and one sister. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington. The funeral for Ms. Brown will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, with Harold Davis and the Rev. Shane McCampbell officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established.
