Gordon James Smith, 51, of Rochester, Minn., died Monday, March 25, in a car accident in Rochester. He was born May 12, 1950, in Princeton, N.J. He married Molly Brooks Cowles, the daughter of Jim and Betty Cowles of Burlington, on July 21, 1979, in Burlington. Mr. Smith was a mechanical-electrical engineer and an inventor with IBM. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Danielle and Laura; and one son Joshua. The memorial service for Mr. Smith will be at 1 p.m today at the First Baptist Church in Rochester. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington at a later date. A memorial has been established for mission work. Contributions may be sent to Ranfranz Funeral Home in Rochester.
