Obituary
Mrs. Charles Biklen, 25, Wapello, Ia., mother of a five-day-old son, died at Burlington hospital at 9:55 this morning of a form of sleeping sickness.
The disease followed complications from influenza which developed after the birth of her baby at Burlington hospital last Thursday, relatives said. The child’s condition was reported as satisfactory.
Mrs. Biklen was the former Marguerite Scranton of Washington, Ia., where she was born on June 17, 1912. She married Mr. Biklen former Burlington resident, at Westchester, Ia., on July 6, 1936.
The former Miss Scranton was well known and loved in Washington where she resided prior to her marriage. She attended Washington junior college for a year and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving besides her husband and infant son are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scranton of Westchester, and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Burnett-Wallen funeral home Friday morning at 10 o’clock Rev. A. Cardle will officiate. Interment in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
