Frances Mary Blomquist, 89, died July 25 in a retirement home in San Jose, Calif.
A native of Sweden, Miss Blomquist was reared in Burlington. She was born March 23, 1879.
Four days before her death, Miss Blomquist enjoyed a reunion with two other former Burlington residents, George Ballantyne and Mrs. Elsie Skinner Yerkes.
After high school graduation, Miss Blomquist went to New York to study for the stage. In 1905 she went on tour with some of the old vaudeville acts booked by the Shubert and Rose stock companies.
She later moved to Burlingame, Calif., where she taught school, and then attended the University of California at Berkeley where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
Miss Blomquist joined the San Jose Unified School District in 1924 and taught at Selma Olinder for a year. She then transferred to Woodrow Wilson junior high school where she taught drama, English, and speech correction. She retired in 1945.
She was a member of the Alum Rock Methodist church, Chapter DN of PEO, the Retired Teacher’s Association in California, and nationally.
Four nephews survive. Services were held July 27 in San Jose.
