Obituary
Mrs. Sarah Boesch, 90, of 607 North Street, widow of John Boesch, pioneer Burlington dry goods merchant and step-mother of the late George Boesch, who succeeded his father in the business, died at 3:45 this morning in Burlington hospital, following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Boesch was born on a farm in Des Moines county, eight miles north of Burlington, Aug. 28, 1849, the daughter of Carl Henry Buhrmaster and Sophia Louise Pranger. She had been a resident of Burlington proper, for 79 years and watched with satisfaction the town grow and prosper, in which growth and prosperity her husband, John Boesch, and later his son, George played a prominent role.
A kindly woman, she made and kept her many friends over the years, always displaying a fine concern and interest in those friends. During her life, she was a faithful member of the Methodist congregation, in the stone edifice on Seventh and Washington streets. When this organization was disbanded, due to a lessening of interest in German language services, she became affiliated with Grace ME church where she was most helpful in all activities.
Living with Mrs. Boesch at the time of her death was a grandniece, Miss Florence Zimmerman, who made her home with her grandaunt for 35 years, comforting and administering to her in her declining years. There also survive 28 nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Boesch died 39 years ago.
Funeral services for Mrs. Boesch will be conducted at Grace ME Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00, with the pastor, Rev. Edward L Stone, officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove.
