Elsie M. "Vicky" Liggett, 85, of Burlington died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 7, 1928 in Norwich, England she was the daughter of Fred and Alice Plunkett Chipperfield. On January 31, 1953 she married George E. Liggett in New York City. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.
Mrs. Liggett graduated from a private girl's school in England becoming a switchboard operator there. After coming to Burlington she worked for Montgomery Wards. She was a member of First United Church of Christ and was very active with the Shining Stars, a group within the church. Elsie did volunteer work at Hope Haven and Hopefully Yours. She loved to read, knit, sew, and watch the Cubs. She loved her grandchildren very much.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn (Mike) Wagner and Susan (Wayne) Mueller both of Burlington and Kimberly (Dan) Graham of Ursa, Illinois; one son, Terry Liggett of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jason (Alea), Alaine, Georgia, Brighton, Bill, and Lydia; three sisters, Jackie, June, and Jennie all of Norwich, England and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Joseph Wilt; and niece, Tracy Trimmer.
The memorial service for Mrs. Liggett will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10th at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will gather with friends following the service in fellowship hall where a luncheon will be served.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Hope Haven.
Cremation has been accorded and Lunning Chapel is handling the arrangements for the family.
