Obituary

Fred Wemmie, 78, who farmed for 65 years in Tama township, died early Tuesday morning in Burlington hospital. He had been in failing health the past five years. Wemmie was born in Germany on Oct. 27, 1880, the son of George and Stentje Waltermann Wemmie, and came to this country in 1892. He was married to Mary Huneke in Burlington on Feb. 27, 1906. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist church, was a past deacon of the church and taught a Sunday school class in the church for many years. Surviving are his wife: two daughters, Mrs. john Kohrs of Stafford, Kan., and Mrs. Gus Weyl of Middletown route one; two sons, George of Batavia route one and Albert at home; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Sophia Thomson of Burlington route three, and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents are dead. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Oak Street Baptist church. The body will be taken from Prugh's chapel at 10 a.m. Friday and will lie in state at the church until time for services. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
