Obituary
Mary Ann Mackintyre was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, 65 years ago. She was a daughter of Deacon F. P. and Mary (Tufts) Mackintyre. On the 25th of August, 1846, she was united in marriage to William Salter at Charlestown, coming to this city with her husband in that year. Their union was blessed with five children, Mary, Wm. N., Frederick, Summer and George B. Frederick and Mary are dead. William N. is a professor of ethical culture in an eastern college; Summer is a celebrated composer and church organist in Philadelphia, while George lives in this city, and is a member of the firm of Harrington & Salter. During all the years of Dr. Salter's pastorate in Burlington, his wife has been his companion and his helper. When the outlook was darkest her bright smile and cheery disposition urged the young preacher on to further effort and ultimate success. Her life has been a perfect example of the life of a true christian woman. She gave of what she had to the poor and needy and her death will prove a shock in more ways than one to numerous Burlington families. Never was a tale of distress allowed to go unheeded by her. She was a friend to all.
