Richard "Dick" Bock, 83, of Burlington, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Monday morning, December 31, 2012.
Born on March 20, 1929 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Walter Frederick Bock and Marie Ann Long Bock. He married Norma M. James on June 18, 1950 at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington, Iowa.
Dick owned and operated Bock Plumbing and Heating for 49 years. He served on the counsel at Bethany Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School. He also taught plumbing apprentice-ship for five years.
He loved to travel, read and enjoyed working around the house. He was a World War II history enthusiast. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Bock; one son, Mike (Chris) Bock of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Connie (Merle) Tisor of Burlington, Iowa, Pam (Gary) Schmeiser of Burlington, Iowa and Mindy (Don) Lacy of Carlsbad, California; nine grandchildren, Sean Lyons, Christopher Lyons, Amanda Sanchez-Losada, Iaian Bock, James Bock, Nicole Schmeiser, Jared Schmeiser, Bennett Lacy and Elizabeth Lacy; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Lyons, Charlie Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, William Lyons, Michael Lyons and Max Sanchez-Losada; and one sister, Mary Ann Alderson of Burlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gloria Wheeler.
Memorial services for Richard "Dick" Bock will be held on Friday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2515 Madison Ave, Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Rick Biederman will officiate. Interment of ashes will be at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.
