Obituary
Word has been received here of the death of Charles E. Brooks, Jr., 48, native of this city, who died this morning at Veterans hospital in Milwaukee, Wis., after a year's illness. He was born in Burlington Jan. 31, 1890 and attended schools of the city, graduated from Burlington High School and lived here until World war time when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and saw service over seas. Following the World war he went to Racine, Wis., where he was in the insurance business until he became ill. He was well known here as a young man. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Brooks, now deceased and of this city, and is survived by his widow, Mathilda Ewinger Brooks, and one daughter, Elsie. Four sisters, Miss Ruth L. Brooks of Chicago, ill.; Miss Elsie H. Brooks of Racine, Wis.; Mrs. Eugene Cox of Kirkwood, Mo.; and Mrs. Ben P. Poor of Burlington, also survive. Funeral services will be held at Prugh's chapel Monday at 11 a.m. and burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body will arrive here from Racine Sunday evening.
