Frank H. Schramm, 95, of Burlington Medical Center Klein Unit, died at 2;30 p.m.Friday, Nov. 10, 1995, at the Klein Unit. Born Jan.17, 1900, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank Edgar and Carrie Higgason Schramm. He married Elaine Mabley on May 11, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo. She died June 5, 1985. Mr. Schramm was a lifelong resident of Burlington, was educated in the local school System and attended the University of Wisconsin. Along with his brother, James S. Schramm, he owned and operated the family business, J.S. Schramm Co., where he worked for 40 years, serving as president of the company from 1934 to 1962. He was active in many local civic and business affairs including the Chamber of Commerce, Civic Music, United Way, the Historical Society, Burlington Golf Club and Crystal Lake Hunting Club. He was founder and member of the Burlington Unitarian Fellowship and served on the national Board of Directors of the Unitarian-Universalist Organization. He also served on the board of trustees of the University of Iowa School of Religion and the Meadville Theological School in Chicago. He was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree by the Meadville School for his dedication and service to the Unitarian movement. He was an outdoorsman, hunter, horseman, wilderness traveler and conservationist. He actively supported wildlife management, conservation and the preservation of natural habitats and wilderness areas. Survivors include one daughter, Gretchen Taylor of Monterey, Calif.; one son, Peter Schramm of Galesburg, Ill.; four grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Heinen of Amers; and a number of nieces. Mr. Schramm has deeded his body to the University of Iowa Medical College, Department of Anatomy.A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Burlington Unitarian Fellowship.
