The following obituary appeared in The Hawk-Eye, Burlington, IA newspaper on August 1, 1983: Mark Edward Bras, 15-year old HawkEye carrier, was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Steamboat Springs, CO, where he was visiting friends, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 31. He was born May 7, 1968, in Iowa City and is the son of Charlene Hill, 1220 Gnahn. Surviving: his mother; stepfather, Duane Hill; grandparents, John Bras, Burlington, and Donna Smith, Intercession City, FL; and step-great grandmother Hazel Hemphill, Mediapolis. Services are pending at Prugh's Chapel.
Additional information, provided be Dennis Hemphill, great-uncle: Mark was also survived by his great-grandmother Sylvia Bras, Morning Sun, and his uncle Darrel Bras, Burlington. He was predeceased by his uncle, Dan Bras.
Mark's funeral was held at Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, on August 4, 1983, and was officiated by Pastor Ron Honson.
