Lyle Eugene Brandstetter, 89, of Burlington, died at 7:25 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born August 13, 1920, in Milford, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Leta Mason Brandstetter. On February 2, 1946, he married Mary Helen Hasten in Burlington. Mr. Brandstetter worked at White House, Gustafson, and Sunshine dairies. He retired from the former Burlington Medical Center. He graduated in 1939 as valedictorian of Bode High School. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he served as a deacon, a trustee, and Sunday School treasurer, and participated in the CROP Corn Project. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed working on old cars, gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and keeping up with the daily weather. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sherry Wolfe and Cynthia Bachtell, both of Burlington; three sons, Joseph Brandstetter of Parker, Colo., David Brandstetter of Cedar Rapids, and Todd Brandstetter of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Peterson and Neva Hauer, both of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The funeral for Mr. Brandstetter will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. D. Dean Benton officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Food and fellowship will be at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
