The Rev. Varnell Bramlett, 61, of Burlington, died at 7:06 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Born Jan. 30, 1938, in Keokuk, he was the son of Gilbert and Rosie Lee Sewell Bramlett. He married Raye A. McHaskell on June 29, 1991, in Burlington.
Mr. Bramlett worked as an inspector at General Electric in Burlington for 15 years and was a pastor in LaBelle, Mo.
He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in LaBelle. He served on the Human Rights Commission in Burlington, was president of the Burlington chapter of the NAACP, and helped initiate the tutoring program at Horace Mann Middle School.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Angie Organ of Austin, Texas, Novella Johnson of Burlington, Cathy Gulley of Fort Madison and Kelli Greene of Chicago; two sons, Jonathan Bramlett of Burlington and David Shelton of Chicago; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Gilbert Bramlett of Los Angeles; and one sister, Dorean Wilson of Burlington.
There will be no visitation; however, friends may call at Prugh's Chapel after noon today.
The funeral for the Rev. Bramlett will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Lawrence Manson and John H. Mimms officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the scholarship fund with the NAACP.
