Mrs. Emily Kane, one of the oldest residents of the city, passed away Saturday at 11 a.m. at her home, on South Fifteenth street. Emily Keeler was born in Miamitown, Hamilton county, Ohio, November 22, 1825, and hence was 82 years, 6 months and 28 days old. She came with her parents to this city in 1841, and was married to Alexander Kane, September 15, 1845. This union was blessed with seven children, four daughters and three sons. Three of the children passed away in infancy and three were summoned after they had arrived at mature years. Mr. Kane died in January, 1889. The surviving child is Mrs. Nettie Van Haugan, with whom Mrs. Kane had been making her home. Other relatives who mourn this good woman are a granddaughter, Miss Esther Cowles, and a sister, Mrs. Julia Eads, of this city. Mrs. Kane had united with Zion M. E. church in early life, and was a true and conscientious Christian. She left a letter, giving general directions as to the funeral arrangements, selecting Psalm 23:4 for funeral text, and "Asleep in Jesus" and "Nearer, My God to Thee" for funeral hymns. The funeral service will take place at the residence, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
