Dr. Herbert L Madison, 67, retired local dentist, died at his home, 1231 Hagemann avenue, yesterday morning following a long illness. He was a former member of the city council and the school board and before his illness was active in lodge circles of the city. He was one of the oldest members of the Elks and was a member of several Masonic organizations, Malta lodge, St. Omer Commandery, Royal Arch Masons and Eastern Star.He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and encampment. Dr. Madison was born in Stratford, Fulton county, New York, Sept. 21, 1843. He graduated from the Ohio college of dental surgery at cincinnati, March 4, 1889 and came to Burlington in the same year. He was married twice. His second wife, formerly Miss Mae L. Curtiss, whom he married in 1924, died last February. He is survived by two children by this marriage, Theodore C. and Phoebe Ann Madison at home, and two daughters and a son by his first marriage, Mrs. Francis Hays and Miss Betty Madison of Riverside, Calif., and John H, Madison, of Hartford, Conn. One son, Herbert, drowned 15 years ago. The body was taken to the Burnett-Wallen funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Died May 4, at 1231 Hageman avenue, Dr. Herbert L. Madison, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 13 days. Services will be held at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
