Obituary
Charles Wesley Waite, the well-known traveling man, residing at 902 Summer street, died yesterday morning at 7 o'clock at the Burlington hospital. Some eight months ago he became ill and later was afflicted with paralysis which developed into dropsy and death resulted. With the passing away of this knight of the road, the traveling fraternity lost one of their most valued members. Mr. Waite has been on the road since the time he became of age and has been very successful, up to the time of his late illness being connected with a Chicago candy company. He was born in Dayton, O., March 1, 1849. He was educated in the public schools of that city and graduated from the high school. After leaving school he clerked in a store until he learned the business and at the age of 21 he went on the road and remained in the capacity of traveling agent for eastern firms until sickness compelled him to lay aside his labors. April 23, 1879, Mr. Waite was united in marriage with Miss Fannie David and the couple resided in Burlington since that time. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church. He was a 32d degree Mason, being a member of the Commandery at Galesburg and of Kabba Temple and Mystic Shrine of Davenport. He was popular among his comrades on the road, possessing a warm heart, a genial disposition and a cordial manner which never failed to make friends for him. Surviving are the widow and the following children: Mrs. A.R. Kuhlemeier of Chicago, Mrs. John Clymo, Charles W. Jr., Louise and Ralph of this city. The funeral announcement will be made later.
