Mrs. Mary Virginia Rittler, 98, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at her home in Burlington.
Born September 7, 1912, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Minnie Hillen Stuck. On January 11, 1936, she married Alvin M. Rittler in Burlington. He died May 11, 1971.
Mary was a homemaker and had worked at Burlington Notre Dame High School for nine years.
She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and the Guardian Angel Aide Group. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Cheryl "Tootie" Rittler and Donna R. Pence both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Phillips and Helen Frank both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard "Dick" Rittler, one brother, Charles Stuck and one infant granddaughter.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends following a 5:00 pm Rosary Service until 7:00 pm.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Rittler will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Michael T. Phillips as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen communtity room following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and Burlington Notre Dames Schools.
