Obituary

Another old resident of Burlington has departed for the better land. Mrs. Esther Armstrong passed away at 6:30 o'clock last evening at her home, No. 610 North Fourth street. She was 89 years of age and has been a resident of Burlington for over fifty years of that time. Mrs. Armstrong was a devout Christian woman, and a regular attendant at Christ Episcopal church. Both in the church and our, she exerted her influence for good and lived her life in a manner that is sure to earn for her that inevitable reward promised the righteous. Her kindness of heart and sunny disposition were an inspiration of cheer to those about her. Her friends were numbered by the hundreds and for each and everyone she always had a pleasant smile or an encouraging word. She maintained excellent health until a few weeks ago, when the decline came. She was resigned to the end, having done her whole duty in the life. Esther Gregg was born in county Donegal, near Londonderry, Ireland. She came to America when a little child with her parents and the family settled in Nova Scotia.Later they moved to the United States. She was married in the year of 1852 at Baltimore, Md., to John H. Armstrong., coming to Burlington immediately after and making this city their permanent home. Mr. Armstrong died in the year of 1876. Two children were born to the union but they died in infancy. Mr John A. Gregg is a nephew of Mrs. Armstrong.
