John Erickson, a Milwaukee engineer, and formerly a resident of Burlington, was killed in a railroad wreck near Des Moines Saturday morning. Two freight trains running at a high rate of speed met head on and several trainmen were killed. Passengers in a coach attached to one of the trains were uninjured. Erickson was scalded to death by escaping steam. He was an engineer on the Burlington route prior to the big strike of 1887.
