Obituary
Mr. Harold Edward Borden, 77, of Burlington, died at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Great River Medical Center. Born November 24, 1932, in Shelbina, Missouri, he was the son of Harold Rolland and Marjorie Greb Borden. On August 8, 1954, he married Barbara Jean Peterson in Burlington. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1994. Mr. Borden was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a Korean War Air Force veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant from 1952 to 1956. Mr. Borden was a truck driver for Heartland Express, and a salesman for Siegs Auto Parts. He was a member of the Eagles, and was active in Boy Scouts as a scoutmaster. He enjoyed traveling, casinos, model airplanes and ships, and fishing. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Cindy) Borden of St. Louis, Missouri, and Alan (Cathy) Borden of Burlington; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Alicia and Kevin; a sister, Mildred Mellinger of Burlington; and four nephews. His wife, parents and infant grandson preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16th, in Lunning Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Borden will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 17th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. A memorial has been established.
