Carl Robert Bonser, 82, of West Burlington, died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center Klein Unit. Born June 10, 1917, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Heaton and Dorothy L. Shipley. He was adopted by Orville Bonser. He married Margaret Anna Elaine Pierson on Nov. 14, 1945, in West Burlington. She died Aug. 15, 1998. Mr. Bonser was a graduate of Burlington High School, and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Benner Tea Co. as an advertising artist for 42 years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son, Ryan Bonser of Macomb, Ill.; one daughter, Nancy Thornton of West Burlington; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral service for Mr. Bonser will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
