Mr. James A. "Jim" Bonar, 91, of Burlington died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Burlington Care Center.
Born June 30, 1922 in Burlington, he was the son of Clifford and Magdelena (Boecker) Bonar. On May 3, 1939 he married Bertha Lea Wilson in Canton, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1990.
Mr. Bonar was an Army veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Jim's Auto Sales, retiring in 1993.
Mr. Bonar was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150, the American Legion and the Burlington Gym. He loved to golf and enjoyed playing on pool leagues, listening to music and socializing. He was an avid card player especially poker and pitch.
Survivors include his six children, Tommy J. Bonar of Burlington, Randy R. (Jane) Bonar of Fort Madison, Perry W. Bonar of Iowa City, Lea Anne (Gary) Kirby of Burlington, David A. Bonar of Burlington and James A. (Kelli) Bonar of Burlington; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service for Mr. Bonar will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 13th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Larry Dodds officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
