Roger "Odie" Odiorne Smith, 71, Burlington, died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Washington. Born October 27, 1936, in Galesburg, IL, he was the son of Franklin and Mildred Odiorne Smith. On January 8, 1983, he maried Ann Calloway Mehler at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Burlington. Mr. Smith was a 1956 graduate of Donnellson High School. He worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 38 years. He was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church. He served on two boards at Autumn Heights, helped people mow their lawns and also helped with the community bike ride. He attended the Plant Retirees' group dinner monthly. Survivors include his wife; one stepdaughter, Margaret Ann Mehler of Mount Pleasant; one stepson, Michael William Mehler of Burlington; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Smith will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
