Obituary
Arthur Frank Zaiss, 92, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born May 3, 1911, in Burlington, he was the son of Gustave Adolph and Rose Caroline Long Zaiss. On Sept. 23, 1933, he married Helen Nelson. Mr. Zaiss founded Zaiss Motor Sales in 1936 and operated the business in 1936 for 67 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and of United Commercial Travelers and the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Krantz of Burlington and Shirley Z. Johnson of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. The funeral for Mr. Zaiss will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Prugh Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church emergency fund for the needy.
