Mark F. "Mike" Zaiser, 82, of Burlington, died at 1:45 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. He was born on July 6, 1923 in Burlington, the son of George J. and Nettie S. Fladt Zaiser Sr. He was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. "Mike" served in the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He was a member of the Army Infantry in the Philippine Islands and in New Guinea. On September 27, 1947 he married Ingeborg Kalkbrenner at St. Paul's UCC in West Burlington. "Mike" was a 30-year Veteran of the Burlington Fire Department. He served as Fire Chief for 9 years from 1969 until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Burlington City Council from 1982 until 1990. He was a member of St. Paul's UCC in West Burlington, where he was past president of the St. Paul's UCC Council and a council elder. He was an active member of Kiwanis for 27 years where he was an attendance taker for the Organization. "Mike" played baseball in high school and also played semi pro baseball for the Labor Temple. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and was a Civil War buff. He is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Zaiser of Burlington; two daughters, Victoria (Dusty) Thye and Annette Vincent, both of Burlington; two sons, Michael (Renee) Zaiser of Burlington and Danny (Dawn) Zaiser of New London. Eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His parents, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death. A memorial has been established for the Burlington Ambulance Advancement Fund or the Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.
