George Carl Zackert, 92, of 605 Hedge Ave., died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, in Burlington Medical Center. Born Dec. 24, 1884, in Horton, Vt., he was the son of Joseph and Anna Zackert. He married Pearl Newby, July 17, 1917, in Burlington. For several years, he played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. he also operated the Zackert Grocery store and was a member of Asbury Methodist church. Surviving: The wife, a son, Firson, Burlington; four grandchildren. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Prugh's Chapel, Revs. Robert Scott and Floyd Cripps; Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial has been established at Prugh's chapel.
