Earl G. Bonar, 92, of Yarmouth prior to retirement in Burlington and Mission, Texas, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 1:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was born on June 19, 1916 in Yarmouth, Iowa to Carl D. and Lula Barkus Bonar. He married Edith G. Burgus on February 14, 1942 in Kahoka, MO, she died November 30, 1976. He married Jeanne Poorbaugh on December 7, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was of Methodist faith. He was a lifelong farmer near Yarmouth and Mt. Union. He was a member of Eagles Club, loved to dance, loved taking the girls to the river and trapping. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Des Moines; five daughters, Marilyn (Marcus) Bergren of Georgetown, TX, Carole (Daniel J.) Mertens of Salem, IA, Janet (Tom) Willson of San Antonio, TX, Theresa (John) Wood of Danville, IA, Christine (Ray) Sparks of Southport, NC; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edith Bonar; three brothers, Delbert, Glen & Irvin; one sister, Ethel Swafford. Visitation will be held at Prugh's Chapel on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The funeral service will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Marshall Jackman will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Pleasant Manor Care Center.
