Dale E. Zachmeyer, 86, of Burlington died at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born July 18, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward and Cora Bazel Zachmeyer. On April 3, 1949, he married Edith Oetken. She died March 28, 1982. On November 17, 1984, he maried Frances L. Hellenthal-Lee in Burlington. She died April 19, 2006. Mr. Zachmeyer worked for Sunshine Dairy, and 15 years for J.I. Case Co., retiring in 1987. He served from 1945 to 1946 in the Army during World War II, and from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was a member of Moose Lodge and VFW Post 10102. He was a very organized person and a baseball fan. He enjoyed working in his yard and bird watching. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Zachmeyer will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A time of food and fellowship will be at Hass-Thielen community room following burial. Memorials have been established for Disabled American Veterans and V.F.W. Post 10102.
