Marjorie Rose Bence Young, 90, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, January 8, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born January 20, 1916 in Burlington, she was the daughter of John Jacob and Julia M. Ohle Messmer. On October 14, 1939, she married Cecil R. Bence in Burlington. He died September 8, 1968. On November 24, 1971, she married John William Young in Burlington. He died November 28,1998. Mrs. Young was a 1934 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a clerk for Brown, Lynch and Scott Co., and a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Burlington. She enjoyed cross-stitching, playing scrabble, the Hawkeyes and the Cubs. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include twin sons, Robert R. (Marsha) Bence of Burlington, Iowa, and William R. (Teresa) Bence of West Burlington, Iowa; twin daughters, Julia (Gary) Warner of Burlington, Iowa, and Judith (Gary) Pickering of Wapello, Iowa one stepson, John L. Young of Danville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Bill (Melanie) Bence, Tami (Larry) Hibbs, Robert Bence, Benjamin (Lisa) Bence, and Brandii (Aaron) Wherry; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Hibbs, Noah Hibbs, Abigail Bence and Ethan Bence. Her parents, husbands, one sister and one brother preceded her in death. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Young will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11th, in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Erick Swanson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
