John William Young, 84, of Burlington, died at 10:44 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Burlington. Born Jan. 20, 1914, in Canton, Mo., he was the son of LeRoy Burton and Alvia Adelina Hayes Young. On Nov. 21, 1971, he married Marjorie R. Messmer Bence in Burlington. Mr. Young was a pipefitter for more than 40 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Burlington and Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 212 of Burlington. Survivors include his wife; one son, John L. Young of Danville; two stepdaughters, Julie Warner of Burlington and Judi Pickering of Wapello; three stepsons, Robert Bence of Burlington, William Bence of West Burlington and Rick Boarts of Georgia; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Mercedes Calloway of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five infant brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation. The funeral for Mr. Young will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church of Burlington, with the Rev. Charles Evans officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the new Healthwest Cancer Clinic.
