Merle Edward Bolte, son of Edward L. and Ruth Irene Smith Bolte, was born on 25 February 1957 in Fort Madison, Iowa.
He graduated from Burlington High School with the Class of 1975.
Merle married the former Mary Therese Saylor. From this marriage they had one child, Timothy Neil Bolte, who was born on 27 June 1976. Merle and Mary were divorced in March 1977 in San Diego County, California.
Merle died on 19 August 1978, from injuries he suffered in a traffic accident. At the time of his death, Merle was assigned at the San Diego Naval Station, San Diego, California.
Survivors include his parents, Burlington; son Timothy, San Diego; and sister Karen, at home.
Services for Engineman Merle Edward Bolte, United States Navy, were held at Prugh?s Chapel on 24 August 1978, with burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery
