Samuel Yates, 74, died in Burlington hospital at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. Yates home was at 218 West Burlington avenue, West Burlington. Last rites will be conducted at the West Burlington Methodist church at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. James V. Poulsen will officiate, and burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body will be taken to the church from the Prugh chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, to lie in state until time for the service. Yates served as an electrician at the C.B.&Q. railroad shops for 29 years prior to his retirement nine years ago. He was a native of Coal City, Ill., and was born Nov. 15, 1885, the son of William and Mary Yates. he was a veteran of the first World War and was a member of the Railroad Veterans of the Burlington Lines. oct. 1, 1919 at West Burlington, Yates was married to Nellie Myrtle Ellis. She survives, as do a son and two daughters: William Leonard Yates, USAF, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb; Mrs. Joseph Esposito, East Moline, Ill. and Mrs. Roger E.H.. Feldmann, 2508 surrey Rd., Burlington, Also surviving are a brother, Robert Yates, Hunting Park Calif., and five grandchildren. Seven brothers and a sister died previously.
