Helen Rebecca Yantis, 80, of Wever, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2000, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Born July 17, 1920, in Baring, MO, the daughter of Roy and Ruth Haines Slocum. On October 27, 1940, Helen married Dale B. Yantis in Chillicothe, MO. Mrs. Yantis was a mail clerk for the United States Postal Service in Wever. She attended Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church of Burlington, and was a member of the Rebekah's, a subsidiary of the Odd Fellows Lodge. She graduated from Baring High School, Baring, MO. Helen was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be immensely missed by friends and family. Helen was truly one of God's greatest gifts. She cherished her personal relationship with her Lord. Helen enjoyed flowers, walking, playing bridge, swimming, dancing, and taking care of a beautiful garden. She recently celebrated 60 years of marriage with a summer family reunion. We praise the Lord for her time here on earth. Survivors include her husband, Dale; one son, Mike D. Yantis and his wife Cindy of Pocatello, Idaho; two daughters, Rebecca A. Galloway and her husband Duane of Strafford, MO; Sherry K. Kremheller and her husband Michael of The Woodlands, TX; five grandchildren, David Adair, Lisa Kremheller, Mike Kremheller, John Yantis, and Katie Yantis; one great-grandson, Christian Meno; three brothers, Richard Slocum of Mountain View, CA, Joseph Slocum of Santa Ana, CA, and John Slocum of Burlington, IA; two sisters, Maurine Swearinger of Portland, OR, and Dorothy Lawson of Edina, MO. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Lurah Sackett. The funeral service for Mrs. Helen Rebecca Yantis will be Thursday, November 30th, at 10:30 a.m. in Lunning Chapel. Reverend Maurice Moore will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church.
