Evelyn L. Bohlken, age 80, of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Burlington, died at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital at 8:01 a.m. Firday, January 21, 2000. She was born in Burlington, Iowa, on August 29, 1919, the daughter of Louise Holze Bohlken and Fred Bohlken. Evelyn was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington College of Commerce as an executive secretary. She was a former member of Oak Street Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the Primary Department, and currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Scottsdale. Evelyn was an accomplished violinist, pianist, and organist. Evelyn left Burlington in the early 70's and resided in Denver, Colorado, before finally making her home in Arizona. She worked as a Realtor in Scottsdale, and then owned and managed The Yogurt Shoppe on Scottsdale Road for many years, retiring from business about five years ago. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and a sister, Eunice Miller. She is survived and beloved by one brother, Frederic Bohlken of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters, Ruth Schaefer of Medford, OR, Dorothy Hult, and Virginia Otto, both of Burlington. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Oak Street Baptist Church. The service honoring the life of Evelyn will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Oak Street Baptist Church. Reverend Ron Presley will officiate. Burial will be in the Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Oak Street Baptist Church and The Gideons International.
