Obituary
Dale Edward Wunderlich, 83, of Burlington, died with family at his side, at 1:15 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born February 20, 1929 in Burlington, he was the son of Emil and Marie Stoermer Wunderlich. On June 6, 1954 he married Janette Louise Stephenson in Burlington. Dale was a Korean War Navy veteran serving as a pipefitter 3rd class. He also worked for the CB&Q Railroad for 42 years as a pipefitter, retiring in 1990. He was a member of First Congregational Church where he served on the Diaconate and Mission Boards. Dale was a true do-it-yourselfer; there wasn't a project he wouldn't tackle. Dale helped remodel his entire family's homes on a regular basis. He was a wood craftsman, who crafted many fine pieces of furniture. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Janette Wunderlich of Burlington; one brother, Larry (Betty) Wunderlich of Burlington; son-in-law, Stephen Orth of Burlington; granddaughter, Stephanie (Jared) Heckart of Danville and grandson, Jacob Orth of Burlington and several nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Orth, his parents and one sister, Doris Neff. Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30th, in Lunning Chapel. There is no funeral service scheduled at this time.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society, Great River Hospice and First Congregational Church. According to Dale's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
