Donna Marie Nichols Worthy, 85, of Burlington, died at 12:15 AM Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 21, 1929, in Lucas County, IA, she was the daughter of John Alfred and Allie Belle Hartshorn Nichols. On April 2, 1950, she married Curtis Eugene Worthy in Chariton, IA. He died November 21, 2008.
Donna had worked for IAAP, J.C. Penny Co., Ebert Supply Co. as a secretary, West Burlington Bank as a teller, and Younkers as a clerk. She retired in 1991.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she belonged to the Lydia Circle. She also belonged to several card groups, and Burlington Newcomers, and square danced at Circle Square B. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing needlepoint, collecting antiques, and baking fudge and cookies.
Survivors include three sons, Richard E. (Ofelia) Worthy of Westfield, IN, John E. Worthy of Frederick, SD, and Duane E. (Annette) Worthy of Danville, IA; one daughter, Marlys Casey of West Burlington, IA; six grandchildren, Curtis (Amber) Worthy, Jennifer (David) Hanson, Allie Worthy, Corey (Meghan) Stephens, Jessica Casey, and Shaun (Tabitha) Langan; 12 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Griffin, Jered Worthy, Elijah Hanson, Kathryn, Taryn, Shay Stephens, Mackenzie, Madyson, Grant Langan, Chloe Hofer-Worthy and Kenadie Kramer-Worthy; one step-sister, Davadean Johnson of Chariton, IA; one sister-in-law, Donna Holland of Goodyear, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, her stepmother, and one stepsister.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Worthy will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kathleen Moore officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
