Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie Lucille Workman, 90, Burlington, died at 5:31 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center. Born September 30, 1918, in Lomax, Illinois, she was the daughter of Walter Harold and Grace Caroline Nixon Scott. On November 13, 1938, she married Joy Dean "J.D." Workman in Burlington. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1992. Mrs. Workman was a graduate of Lomax High School. Mrs. Workman worked at grocery stores that she and her husband owned in the surrounding communities. She then worked at the Harrison House in Burlington, and then as an inspector of resistors at IRC from 1965 until 1971. She also worked at Florida Medical Service in Leesburg, Florida, and returned to the Burlington area in 1986. She enjoyed music and her family, and volunteered at Klein Center where she sang and danced with the Golden Oldies. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Garth Workman of Burlington; one brother, Dale Scott of Fort Madison; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, son Errol Workman, parents, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
