Mrs. Verna Mae Woodward, 87, of Burlington died at 4:21 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at Great River Medical Center. Born August 5, 1924 in Oakville, she was the daughter of John Henry and Bertha Katherine Gerst Wagenbach. On January 1, 1948 she married Marvin Homer Woodward in Burlington. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2011. Mrs. Woodward was a 1941 graduate of Huron High School and attended Burlington College of Commerce. She worked at Schramm and Schmieg and in production and payroll for General Electric for 22 years, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Woodward was a member of Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. Survivors include four daughters, Sherry Ann (Don) Keppner of Burlington, Diane Kay (Tom) Ebert of Cave Creek, Arizona, Bonnie Niemtschke of Austin, Texas and Beverly Jo (Larry) Moser of Wapello; son-in-law, John Cox (Shirley) of Washington, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Wagenbach, John Wagenbach Jr. and Gerald Wagenbach Sr. all of Burlington; and six sisters, Dorothy Schulz and Teresa Marti both of Burlington and Ada Massner, Barbara Massner, Bertha Lee Massner and Dolores Anliker all of Mediapolis. Her husband; daughter, Ellen Sue Cox; son-in-law, Tommy Niemtschke; parents; and two sisters, Emma Jean Lanz and Edith Wagenbach preceded her in death. Friends may call from noon until 6 p.m. Friday, April 6th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will not be present. The funeral service for Mrs. Woodward will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7th, in Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. Church Ministers will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. n lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Apostolic Christian Church Building Fund and Apostolic Christian Home for Handicapped of Morton, Illinois.
